You Become What You Worship
‘Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe…’
– Hebrews 12:28 (NIV)
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
– A.W Tozer
Here is a fundamental question that you need to ask yourself regularly, What do you believe about God?
Are the things you believe about God from Scripture, or from your wish list, your culture, your upbringing?
More than our gender, sexuality, ethnicity, family of origin. the town we grew up in, educational qualification, monthly income or whether your football Team is Blue, White, Stripes or Red?
Absolutely. Here’s a truth that cuts across the whole of the universe: what we spend time thinking and meditating about regularly is what we worship… We end up to become like what we worship.
Put another way, what you think about God will shape your reality in life.
If you think of God as just the cosmic version of a life coach, there to “maximize your life,” that will shape you into a self-help yuppie, even if you dress it up and call it following Jesus.
As the saying goes, “God created man in His own image. And man, being a gentleman, returned the favor.”
Much of what we read in the news or see on TV or pick up on the street about God and the way He works is wrong. Maybe not all wrong, but wrong enough to mess up how we live.
This is why you need to get to know God personally and more intimately through deliberate, intentional, consistent fellowship with Him in prayer, and Bible study (more than reading).
The kingdom you have received is not like the kingdom of this world.
To really ‘become’ in this kingdom, you must behold God in Spirit and in truth. You must allow the Holy Spirit to flow through the whole fabric of your life, mind, soul, and spirit. The Holy Spirit must not have a no-go area.
Drop all assumptions and familiarities, and set yourself right with God. Let the consuming fire of God flow through your heart and set your life in order for God to use.
Dear Lord God set my life in order for you. Set my heart on fire for you. I want to know your ways. I want to know your heart. I am your tribe, Oh! God, let your will be done on earth through me today and always. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen.
