A Time To Dance

David danced before the LORD with all his might.
— 2 Samuel 6:14

Too often we are hesitant to dance, whether it’s dancing in the literal or figurative sense of the word. Perhaps that’s because much of our society’s dancing seeks to glorify the created rather than the One who created. Maybe it’s because we tend to allow our feeling and emotion determine our action.

But as Solomon so wisely said, while there is

a time to weep… and a time to mourn,” there is also“a time to laugh… and a time to dance. — Ecclesiastes 3:4

Life is not meant to be a solemn, morose affair.

Life is not meant to be endured. Life is meant to be lived. It includes working, sleeping, eating, loving, hurting, weeping, laughing, and yes, dancing.

There will always be difficult times, but don’t let them completely steal your joy and your desire to dance.

Dare to delight in the God who loves you whatever the season you find yourself in: Twirl in the arms of a harmattan wind. Shuffle along with the rustle of falling dry leaves. Tap your toes in the wet raining season. Waltz along with the dripping sweat in that hot weather.

Don’t hesitate: dance for the sheer delight of being alive, of being loved by the One who will be your Partner through all eternity.

Dear Lord God, I place my hand in Yours. Lead me through this life in Your beautiful dance. May the voice of triumph and rejoicing never cease from my heart and life. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
