Not My Will
‘He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” ‘
– Matthew 26:39 (NKJV)
Interestingly, the bible recorded that Jesus repeated the prayer again in verse 42… Then verse 44 reads…and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
Jesus actually asked God to change the plan if possible. He asked not once but three times.
Face to face with the reality of the price to be paid, he felt the full weight of the demand in the gruesome road ahead; the physical abuses along the path, the verbal onslaughts from people he loved, bearing the stench and gory of Sin and going to Hell.
Of a truth, the path to fulfilling purpose is no child’s play, even Jesus asked for alternatives. It’s like like saying, ”God, Must I really do this? Can’t there be an easier way? Why not someone else?”
Have you ever felt like quitting on God’s plan before?
Have you asked God for a quick fix instead of going the whole hog?
That is what is called keeping it real in prayer.
Jesus did too. Hit by the pressure of the temptation in its full might, he desired a change. He didn’t go about grumbling, cursing or abusing people, after all if Adam didn’t disobey, this may not have been necessary. Rather, He opened up to God about his fears, he didn’t bury it.
Beloved, don’t ‘form’ for God. Tell Him exactly how you feel, He understands and will help you through the difficult situation.
Maybe you feel like running away from where God has placed you, maybe the heat is becoming unbearable. Talk to Jesus about it.
Maybe like the disciples slept off on Jesus, people close to you really have no clue about how tough life is with you. Take time out and talk to God about it, He will help you.
As you fight for your life in pursuit of purpose, be rest assured that God’s will shall be done. Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails (Proverbs 19:21).
God is not offended by your request for an easy way out, only don’t do a Jonah… don’t run away. And even if you do, He will do everything possible to bring you back including using a ‘whale’ trap.
As the cycle of an election in Nigeria begins again, everyone has different choices and interests. In a deeply religious setting like ours, each is praying to win, yet scheming and doing all sorts. At the end of proceedings, whether your candidate wins or lose, just pray that the will of God will be done.
Men may rig, try to sabotage the system, they can only try. Delay is not denial. They can never upturn the will of God.
The will and counsel of God for Nigeria is for peace, prosperity, justice, freedom, and righteousness.
The will of God will prevail over Nigeria in Jesus Name. Amen.
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask for help. I ask that you strengthen me through your Spirit in my inner man. I pray that every contrary wind of discouragements and disappointments cease from me. I will not be put to shame. My life will bring you glory.
I pray for Nigeria, Dear Lord, help us, align our hearts to your choice for us. Let the elections be peaceful, free and fair. Deliver us from the spirit of greed and self-centeredness. Let your will be done. May evil men never rule us again.
In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
