Let Haters Hate!
“I don’t know the key to success but the key to failure is trying to please everybody“
– Bill Cosby
There is hardly a worse place for a heart-ache than in trying to please everybody. It has never worked. Once you take a position of honor in life, not many people will share your conviction.
Many will simply find the stake too high. You will have to weather it through. It’s the cross all leaders worth their salt know that they have to bear.
Carey Nieuwoff, Senior Pastor Connexus Church blogging on ‘Ten Easy Ways To Lose Your Influence’ says “if you try to be liked by everyone, you will ultimately stand for nothing and lead no one anywhere significant”.
This is a most radical statement but which holds so true and has been tested over the ages. Haters will simply always give themselves a “good reason” to hate what is good.
Sadly, you wouldn’t be able to help fixated people see reason, however hard you may try! Even if you spill your own blood.
Never make likability a goal!
“Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Dear Lord help us not to be men pleasers. On the contrary, we declare boldness to speak as men approved by God having been entrusted with the gospel. May we ever stop trying to please men but God, who alone knows and tests our hearts. Amen.
