God Exalts The Humble

“A man’s pride will bring him low, But a humble spirit will obtain honor.”
– Proverbs 29:23 (NKJV)

“As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.”
― C.S. Lewis

Bible Reading: Proverbs 25

Pride is quite offensive to God. It is so obnoxious that the Bible recommends that it is better to sit with the oppressed than share wealth with proud and arrogant people.

“Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.” – Proverbs 16:19 (NIV)

Proverbs 29:23 (The Message translation) reads “Pride lands you flat on your face; humility prepares you for honors.”

Often times, pride comes from a sense of accomplishment and peer-to-peer comparison. When a person forgets that all he has, (abilities, successes, and prizes) are gifts and graces from God, he slips into this sin and begins to worship self/things/possessions..

Albert Einstein, the great scientist and inventor wrote: “A true genius admits that he/she knows nothing.”

Our self-righteousness, victories, diadems of glory – everything means nothing when placed side by side the Glory of Our Great God. We must all be careful to deal with pride, most especially in our hearts.

Whenever you begin to find it difficult to take corrections, or you easily become offended when your opinion is not accepted, pause and remember these words …“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (James 4:6b)

In the book, The Purpose-Driven life, Rick Warren wrote: “True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.”

When we humble ourselves in the sight of God, we defer to His instructions, we seek His joy, not our personal or social comfort.

Humility towards God is a sign that we trust Him absolutely. And then, absolutely nothing can stop us from experiencing His Grace and Favor in a measure that is more than enough.

God.. shows favor to the humble.

In Jesus Name I declare
I confess and repent of every secret sin of pride in my mind. I cast down every vain imagination and take every thought captive in obedience to Christ and His saving grace.
I do not have a spirit of pride and arrogance. I have the Spirit of Love. I have a humble and teachable Spirit. Amen.
