Get The Balm In Gilead

“Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?”
– Jeremiah 8:22 (NIV)

“Go up to Gilead and get balm, O Virgin Daughter of Egypt. But you multiply remedies in vain; there is no healing for you.
– Jeremiah 46:11 (NIV)

Records have it that Gilead was a ‘hard and Rocky Region’. It’s a mountainous region with elevations up to 2000-3000 feet!

It was a very tough place to reach and yet it had frequent traffic because of the ‘balm’ extracted from the ‘balm of Gilead’ trees.

This ointment had a powerful and soothing effect so much so that it was also known as the hill of Gilead (Gen. 31:21).

The ointment was so precious that it commanded almost twice its weight in silver.

In the verse above God refers His people to this balm of Gilead. He asks them to dare to climb up and receive recovery!

In Jeremiah 46:11, He goes on to admonish that any other medication will not be effective save this ointment.

I believe that the Balm of Gilead is a symbolic representation. One of which is of the Holy Spirit of God and the Fresh Unction from His Presence.

Gilead is the mount of worship and hence to access the Spirit of Refreshing and Recovery we must frequently climb up this mount.

Take time out to get into the Presence of God.

Climb up as Moses and Abraham did.

Seek His Face.

Commune with Him.

Relax and lay down there and let the balm be applied to every aching part of your life. I assure you, you will return refreshed, rejuvenated and recovered. Take a moment and worship Him today.

In the name of Jesus, I hold tight to God as He supplies me what makes for my peace, health, abundance, and advancement.
I am a man of God’s presence. I go deeper and deeper into the secret place; there I take my joy, peace,
 and restoration. Amen.
