Fasting That Yields Results
(By Tokunbo Beulah Johnson)
“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.(2 Chronicles 7:14 | NIV).
One of the best ways to humble oneself is to maintain a consistent fasting life. Fasting means either doing without food for a period of time in a day or even days or being selective in what one eats per specified time.
Recently, a write-up by Cherie Calbom, M.S., C.N., the author of more than 20 books added fuel to my personal conviction to committing to a regular lifestyle of fasting. More so as my nation and the land of my forbears, Nigeria begins a journey towards a new democratic dispensation from Friday May 29,2015.
I feel the Lord impressing it on my heart since the beginning of this week to consecrate a fast and to pray for the release of Supernatural Wisdom for the incoming political leaders of Nigeria: That they may govern in the fear of God and do God’s Will in bringing much needed welfare and hope to the common man who due to no fault of his had become a victim of worsening economic crisis.
Fasting is part of our spiritual heritage. It was an expected discipline in both the Old and New Testament.
However, fasting is one of the most neglected spiritual disciplines of the 21st century. It is rarely discussed in most nonliturgical churches or on Christian TV. Yet Scripture admonishes us to fast and pray.
According to Scripture, when God’s people fast with the right motive, seeking Him with a broken, repentant and contrite spirit, God hears from heaven. Yes, that’s right God has promised to heal our lives, our churches, our communities and our nation.
Our land is in desperate need of healing. Repentance, fasting and prayer are the only hope for our nation at this time. Fasting and prayer will bring revival and a change of direction in our country. It will also rekindle our love for Christ. Fasting is a powerful spiritual tool to make a difference in our lives.
Wouldn’t you be pleased to welcome a new dawn over Nigeria? How about spending the better part of this week in fasting and prayer to God for your most beloved country and the land of your birth…
Nigeria shall rise again!!!!
In Jesus Name, I ask the God of all grace to grant wisdom to political leaders in the new Nigeria to know what to do till hope returns to the hopeless and healings appear on her social and economic life. Amen
