Do Good To Others

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
– Galatians 6:10

When we were much younger we learned from our parents and Sunday school teachers to do good. I fear that a lot of these simple teachings are fast disappearing. We are tending to be more ‘spiritual’ but less ‘good’.

It shows in our relationships, at work, at home, and in the community.

The reciprocity principle is one of the basic laws of social psychology: It says that in many social situations we pay back what we received from others. In other words, if John does you a favor, you’re likely to return it to him.

Jesus said “Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God’s Law and Prophets and this is what you get. (Matthew 7:12 -MSG and also Luke 6:31).

Think about this;  How often do we share?
When was the last time you helped an older person or assisted a child cross the road?
When last did you cook and share with the neighbors?
What about the occasional wave/salutation to someone you know on the street?
What about visiting with the sick?

Remember when we would pray and include those admitted to the hospitals?
Remember when we gladly dry cleaned our old but neat clothes so we may send them to someone in need?
When was the last time you paid someone else’s fare on a bus-ride as a show of love?

There was a time all this were the norm and God blessed us for it. But today many concentrates on more spiritual fads, hypes, and trends. Though powerful and effective to those who believe and work them, there is more to our faith in Christ.

Are you kind?
Do people around you feel the warmth of God’s love?

Dear friend, in your quest to become a spiritual giant, remember little ‘good deeds’ count. In fact, these are the building blocks of a gigantic life.

Do good

Do good

Dear Lord God, help me to think about the things that honor You. May I walk in love all the days of my life. May I treat others according to your word and not according to the world. In Jesus Name. Amen
