COST OF DISCIPLESHIP
For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it… So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple… He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” – Luke 14:26c-27 | NIV
Further in the scripture (vs 28-35), Jesus likened our followership of him to Project Management. He said it is like embarking on a Building Project. There has to be a deliberate architecture; then a strategy for finish has to be implemented in the Construction plan especially the Budget. Meaning Discipleship does not just happen. It is predetermined!
I have to know that following Jesus will cost me greatly. It is not going to be a chance thing!
It will require for me to be willing to give priority to my relationship with God above my most affectionate relationships. I have to be willing to sacrifice my greatest joy for the furtherance of God’s Will on earth. This list is endless. Throw in some “miscellaneous expenses” somewhere in between and you will then be on your way to True Discipleship! It is a road least travelled. It is the Narrow Way (Matt.7:13,14). The High Cost has to be factored into the journey!
However, the Good News is that we will not be traveling alone. If we ask Him, the Holy Spirit of Jesus will be our Guide to bring us into our great spiritual inheritance in God!
Lord Jesus, I offer my life to you. Every single breath. Do with me as you please. Lead me by Your Spirit to remain faithful through the journey of my life till I reach my eternal home in Jesus Name!
