Repent And Renew

“But did not my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, overtake your ancestors?

“Then they repented and said, ‘The Lord Almighty has done to us what our ways and practices deserve, just as he determined to do.’”
– Zachariah 1:6 (NIV)

For our prayers to be effective and potent, we need to pay attention to our personal life beliefs, habits and culture.

What do I mean? There are two ingredients of prayer that people generally overlook. It’s a contributory factor to why there are many prayer houses in the land and yet ineffective prayer renditions.

There is a simple acronym I once learned in the course of teaching my children to pray.

P is for praise, R for Repent or Renew, A for Ask and Y for Yield. Take special note of the R and Y of PRAY. Let’s examine the R of the art of prayer today.

R – Repent and Renew; To repent means to change your mind, make a total U-turn on a course of action.
To renew means to return to, come back to, revive or restore.

Our verse in Zachariah revealed the conversation God had with His people on the journey to full restoration. They were chosen but fell short until they repented.

Romans 12:2 says “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Many times we are so result-driven that we bother little about checking the principles and pattern we follow in the actions we take. These constitute loopholes that make grace leak. Self-destruct habits and tendencies that will rob us of God-given victories.

We must repent of these little foxes – in the form of traits, habits or beliefs like impulsiveness, fear of rejection, fear of failure, self-indulgence, procrastination, falsehood, eye-service, compulsive eating, impatience, assumptions, presumptions, ethnic-bias, prejudice, etc,.. – that spoil the vine.

Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom. (Song of Songs 2:15)

Whatever God points his finger at in this season in your life, drop it, turn from it. Open your mind as you read the bible daily. (…that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, – Ephesians 5:26)

Ask for the help of the Holy Spirit to catch and exterminate all little foxes so that your restoration will be total and complete.

So as you PRAY today and always, remember not only to praise and ask but to also repent and yield.

May the fervent and effectual prayer of your righteous soul avail much to the glory of God through Christ Jesus. Amen.

We as an assembly are starting the year with fasting and prayer Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday with a special prayer session on Saturday Morning, It’s restoration time!

Dear Heavenly Father, I repent of every principle and pattern in my life that is not in alignment with your will. I renew my mind today. Help me dear Holy Spirit to overcome these little foxes in my life. I receive grace to live whole and holy. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
