Faith Over Money
“Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”
-1 Kings 17:13-14
Let’s imagine this widow’s plight in the context of today;
You are down to your last savings, there is an economic recession, war is looming, anger and frustration all around.
Government is corrupt, probably inept, with so much divisiveness.
Some Men of God are frolicking with the corrupt system.
So much poverty. No fresh jobs, everyone living for themselves, tired of borrowing and not creditworthy.
What! This looks like a country you know right?
And then a man of God is asking you to give!
He is not even asking you to give to a cause or donate to charity, at least that will be on record for posterity to remember.
But to give him for personal use!
“No way. He must be a self-serving, glory seeking, man of God.” Social media will say.
“No! I don’t get it, this is unfair and unkind to a widow? No husband, No jobs, An outcast so why her?” The human mind reasons.
“Go to the rich. Go to people that have means. That is the way it works”; people will say.
Alas the God we serve does not follow protocol.
You might have read that you give out of what you have, what about giving all that you have?
You might have been told to have plans and alternatives but what if the bridge of escape is burnt and all you have is a promise!
When God stands there and makes a demand. Look unto him! Even if with teary eyes, don’t look away, don’t take your gaze away from Him.
This year, God wants you to trust Him more than things, trust Him more than human reasoning and people’s opinion.
Trust Him as the source.
This year, don’t trust money to pay the bills, trust God to settle all matters.
The currency of the kingdom is faith, not money.
Listen to Him in the place of prayer and whatever He asks you to do, do quickly. No debates!
Dear Heavenly Father, Help me to be firm and unwavering in faith. Help me see beyond people’s opinion, human reasoning and media comments. Open my ears to hear you, open my heart to perceive you in every affair of my life this year. May your word be my light from now on and forever more. In Jesus Name. Amen.
